Pick a Card- Quote- Thank You Ma'am

Author's Note: Hello, this is Pick a Card activity and I selected the quote one and i chose a quote from the story Thank You Ma'am. Enjoy!

"Um-hum! And your face is dirty. I got a great mind to wash your face for you. Ain’t you got nobody home to tell you to wash your face?" I chose this quote because this tells us a lot about the women. Instead of  running away like a normal person would she offered to wash the boys face instead. This tells us that she is a caring person who is willing to stand up for herself. She also offers the boy dinner which also tells that she's caring. She may have started out looking like she is a bad person because she was hitting the kid, but really it was just self defense. Later you start to see what kind of person she really is.

Predicting- Dead Man's Path

Predicting- Dead Man’s Path
Nick Woerishofer
Short Response
1/12/12

Author’s Note: Dear writer, I just finished reading a short story called Dead Man’s Path. This is a short response in predicting about what would happen the after the end of the story.

Michael Obi woke up to a beautiful and shiny day. Yet he was still in a horrid mood. After yesterday’s report he didn’t think he would ever be happy again. He worked so hard to get the school where it is and now it all ruined, who could have done such a thing. They messed everything up he had the school ready for a perfect report once again but then someone came and ruined everything. Who would have done this to him? “I am an educated person I can figure this out” he thought to himself. “Who could hate me so much to do this to me?” Everybody who knew Michael Obi, know how much time and effort he puts into it. So why would someone sabotage his meeting with the supervisor? Then he thought for a moment and what he did the day before. When he talked to the superintendent about him shutting down the path which many people went down before dying. He remembered the expression the superintendent had on his face. It must have been him who sabotaged his meeting with the supervisor.

Main Conflict- The Homework Machine

Text Structure- Main Conflict
Nick Woerishofer
The Homework Machine
12/22/11

Author’s Note: Hello reader, this is a main conflict text structure piece on a book I read called The Homework Machine. Enjoy!

In the book I read called The Homework Machine, there are three kids who don’t like to do homework. They meet another boy who is very smart and has invented a homework machine. The main conflict in this story that the homework machine become dangerous and starts malfunctioning. Then the kids become in danger because people start to find out about the machine. Then the police get involved and they get really scared. The conflict is resolved when they make a decision to throw the machine in The Grand Canyon. I believe this the main conflict because this is the climax of the story; it is the point of no return. There are many other reasons why this is the main conflict, one reason is that at this point in time the kids don’t have a choice anymore they have destroy it or they could end up in jail. The machine turns evil and like has a mind of its own, and it is hard to unplug so they some had to destroy it the only way was to just get rid of it, so they threw it down The Grand Canyon. It was a good book and I liked the author, Dan Gutman. I enjoyed reading it.
